Deadlines

The deadlines for consideration for Virtual Virginia enrollment through WCPS are as follows:

  • Fall Semester enrollment must be completed (including all submitted paperwork in the hands of the SHS Counseling Department) no later than 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, 19 June 2024.
  • Spring Semester enrollment must be completed (including all submitted paperwork in the hands of the SHS Counseling Department) no later than 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, 4 December 2024.

School-Based Committee

Before considering enrolling in Virtual Virginia, prospective students and their families must arrange to meet with the school counselor to discuss the appropriateness of online learning for the specific student, as well as go over the requirements for enrollment and for successfully completing the coursework. The student and family must discuss the Virtual Learning Readiness Assessment (included in online application) and be confident of the student's success in the virtual learning environment.

To initiate this first, required meeting, contact your school counselor. Counselors and administrators for Skyline students are as follows:

Student last names beginning with the letters A-G:

  • School Counselor: Cassandra Gahn (cgahn@wcps.k12.va.us)

After this conversation, the counselor will forward the student's completed application materials (found in the sections below) to the Skyline High School counseling department and administration for consideration, which may include evaluating the student's past and current academic performance, attendance, and SOL completion and achievement, among other factors.

Per WCPS policy for Virtual Virginia students, any student that voluntarily dropped a VVA course after the registration deadline; was administratively withdrawn by VVA due to attendance, grades, or any other factor; or failed one or more VVA courses will not be enrolled in Virtual Virginia.

Only students that are found likely to be be academically successful will be enrolled in VVA courses.

Committee Decision and Next Steps

(The chairperson of the school-based committee is Dr. Reeves, Assistant Principal responsible for online learning programs; the principal and highest-ranking school official is Mrs. Sperling, Principal.)

If a student is denied enrollment acceptance, the family may appeal the decision to the building principal, and that appeal will be forwarded to the Warren County Public Schools Non-Traditional Programs Admissions Committee for review and reconsideration.

If a student is approved for enrollment in Virtual Virginia, a schedule will be developed, all appropriate signed forms (found in the sections below) will be collected, and the student will be registered with Virtual Virginia.
